May 1, 2012, at 8:36 am This week is full of great activities and events. Tuesday night is a great time to take your family out to eat. The East Side PTA is hosting a family dinner night at Willy’s from 5-8pm. All proceeds will go directly to the PTA.
East Side’s last Walk to School Day will take place on Wednesday, May 2nd. The first 300 walkers/bike riders will receive a FREE 4oz. smoothie from Smoothie King. Also, Kindergarten orientation will begin on Wednesday morning at 8:30am.
Please remember to also give blood this week. East Side will be hosting a Blood Drive on Thursday, May 3rd from 3-8pm. To schedule a specific time, use the secure link posted on East Side’s homepage. There you will also find links for additional information about the blood drive and the blood donor benefit program. Sign up today!
Art work from this year’s Adventures in Art program and from Mrs. Kaltrieder’s art classes will be displayed throughout the building on Thursday, May 3rd. The last general PTA meeting of the school year will begin at 6:30pm in the cafeteria. After the meeting, parents are encouraged to walk around and look at the displayed art work created by our very own talented student body.
Please don’t forget that Friday, May 4th will be the last day to return the pre-printed registration forms for the 2012-2013 school year. If this form is not received, your student’s registration for next year is not complete. Also, please send in the $2 donation to cover the costs of mailing end of the year report cards and test results.
Finally, remember to place your school supply orders online at www.schooltoolbox.com. The website will be open until May 25th. If you are new to the website, please register yourself and enter the school code: 1ESID30062 to pull up the custom packed boxes for East Side. February 21, 2012, at 12:15 pm The Box Tops Collection Contest will end this Friday, Feb. 24th. Earn great prizes while helping our wonderful school! East Side receives 10 cents for every box top collected. It’s easy to donate. Just clip the box top, count 25 or 50 per baggie, and clearly label the baggie with the number of box tops, the student’s name, teacher and grade. The drop off box is located in the study room next door to the Tiger’s Cage. The Shopping Reward Committee is looking for volunteers to help count/tally all of the box top submissions. East Side Elementary Science Fair – Registration Deadline has been extended. The PTA Science Committee has extended the registration deadline to sign up for this year’s Science Fair. Register for the 7th Annual East Side Science Fair online with our Science Fair Link or fill out the form sent home last month and return it by Monday, March 5th. The Science Fair is Thursday, March 15th and set-up for the projects is Wednesday, March 14th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All students K-5 are encouraged to participate in this fun-filled event. Finally, mark your calendars for Tuesday, Feb. 28th from 6-7:30pm for the Exceptional Expo-A Resource Fair. Come meet a variety of professionals, including psychologists, therapists, educational consultants, tutors, and educational advocates who can help your child succeed in life! November 2, 2011, at 6:57 am It is time again for the East Side Book Fair. This year’s theme, Blast Off Into Reading, will take place the week of November 14-18th. Another exciting event at East Side is the annual International Festival. Help celebrate diversity in our school by representing your native country. The International Festival will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012. If you wish to participate or have any questions about this event, please contact Shruti Maindarkar by Nov. 30th at internationalfestival@ eastsideelementary.com.
The Planet Patrol is sponsoring a Green Halloween contest for the week of Oct. 31st-Nov. 4th. Each classroom will be provided with a collection bag for Halloween candy wrappers, which will be shipped to Terracycle to be repurposed for fashion products. The East Side classroom that collects the most wrappers will win a boom box made from recycled materials.
Lastly, East Side’s November Food Drive will begin next week. Each classroom will put together Thanksgiving baskets to be delivered to families at our sister school, Fair Oaks Elementary. The food drive will be from Nov. 9-15th and the baskets will be delivered to Fair Oaks on Nov. 16th. October 11, 2011, at 9:43 pm What an exciting time of year! There are so many great programs and events happening in the next few weeks here at East Side. Here is a list of just a few:
Waste Free Lunch Day will take place on Wednesday, Oct 12th. Send your student to school with reusable drink bottles and containers. Volunteers will be monitoring the cafeteria for the best examples of environmentally-friendly lunches. Prizes will be given and winners’ names will be announced the following morning.
East Side parent volunteers will once again be conducting our mass vision and hearing screening for all first and fourth graders throughout the next two weeks (Oct.10-14 &17-21). This program is designed to detect problems with vision or hearing of students in the Cobb County School District. This Thursday, Oct. 13th Planet Patrol will meet before school at 7:10am. Please drop students off in the carpool lane by the side entrance door. Next week, East Side will celebrate its annual Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 17-21). The theme this year is “Drug Free I can B Anything I want to B”! Each day our students are encouraged to wear different items to highlight the theme of the day. Additional information regarding the specific items for each day is available on this PTA website under E-News.
Also, don’t forget to buy your pre-sale wristbands for the Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 21st from 5:30-9:30pm. East Side students will enjoy a variety of games, inflatables, food, and music. This year parents can volunteer and/or donate items for the Carnival Under the Stars by going to Volunteer Spot at http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/ 1012345631612790088. October 5, 2011, at 7:01 am This year’s Reflections program is entitled “Diversity Means…” Students are encouraged to express their creativity and submit their best work in one of six areas, which include dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual art. Students may submit as many entries as they would like by October 14th. Additional information may be attained from either this website or by contacting Robin at reflections @eastsideelementary.com.
Don’t forget to order your student’s Memory Book. The books are sold by pre-order only and this year’s deadline is November 15th. You can find the form at www.eastsideelementary.com /folder/62/MB.xls. Include your check payable to East Side Elementary PTA and return them to the PTA mailbox in the front hall of the school.
Another important event to remember is our very own East Side Fall Festival. This year’s Carnival Under the Stars will take place on Friday, October 21st from 5:30-9:30pm. Now on to the celebration…this Thursday, October 6th East Side will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a program in the cafeteria from 6:30-7:00pm and then an open house from 7-8:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, so come on out and join the celebration.
Finally, we celebrate by cheering on our Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Sahadevan, at the annual pep rally held at the Roswell Street Baptist Church (774 Roswell St. SE, Marietta 30060) on Tuesday, October 25th.
