This week we focus on the many ways to improve our students overall health and wellbeing. East Side PTA’s Health and Wellness committee is dedicated to helping our students learn the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. The first meeting will take place on Sept. 23rd at 10am in room 104. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for ways to help with all the exciting events for the year.
Speaking of healthy habits…No Idle Awareness week will begin Sept. 26th. East Side’s No-Idling Zone is part of our involvement with the Clean Air Schools program. Through this program, we are working to protect the health of our students and the health of our environment. Our No Idle signs are not yet re-installed, but our commitment to clean air for our children is as visible as ever! So, if you’re going to be idling for more than 30 seconds, please remember to turn your car’s engine off. You’ll not only improve our air, but you’ll also save money in fuel and vehicle wear and tear costs! To learn more about the “truth of idling” and the impact of smog on air quality visit the environmental education page on this website. Recycling is another way to keep our environment healthy. Encourage your students to continue their efforts in recycling all of their paper and cardboard in their own classrooms. By keeping these products out of landfills, we are helping to protect our environment while also earning money for our school. It’s a win-win for all!
Lastly, it is important to recognize the PTA volunteers who advocate for changes in the laws and policies in order to keep our students safe and healthy. It is through their hard work, dedication, and experience that our students will ultimately benefit. Take a look at the short video entitled “A Legacy in Leadership” and then get involved with East Side’s own Legislation and Advocacy committee. Contact Irene Barton at LegislationandAdvocacy@ eastsideelementary.com for more information.
Check out all of these wonderful programs and get involved in the good health of our students. Have a happy and healthy week!
