January 24, 2012, at 7:56 am Get ready for the 2012 East Side Family Sock Hop! This great event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4th. Volunteers are needed for setup, cleanup, food and soda donations, and to work various shifts during the event. The second week of East Side Foundation’s IXL Math Marathon has begun. Every class has a new opportunity to win a Pizza Party! Log on to www.ixl.com to participate. The class with the highest average number of problems attempted per student will win. At the end of the two-week math marathon, the top class will win the Grand Prize Trophy and the winning student will receive a $50 gift card to Lakeshore Learning Store. Keep up the great work!

December 21, 2011, at 12:44 pm The East Side PE Department hosted its 6th annual Jingle Jog on Saturday, Dec. 3rd. Over 500 students, parents, and staff participated in collecting over $5,000 to support the East Side PE program. In addition, more than 3 extra-large boxes of toys were collected for Toys for Tots.
The ESPE team would like to thank their Elite sponsor Arrow Exterminators, as well as, their Premier sponsors Keller Williams Realty, Carroll Realty, North Atlanta Soccer Association, Aurora Investment Counsel, Sumskys Consulting, All About Signs and Big Peach Running Company. The inflatables were provided by Monte Carlo Productions and Sports-A-Rama. Warm-ups were led by Marietta Martial Arts. Trophies were donated by Letter Perfect Engraving. Finally, a BIG BIG thank you to Amy DeMoss, who was in charge of coordinating all of the volunteer activities. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Jingle Jog this year in any way. The PE team truly appreciates all of your support!
The Fresh Fruit Friday program is growing! Every 2nd Friday of the month, additional fruit from Trader Joe’s will be provided. The next time you are shopping at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods, please give them a great big “thanks” for their support of this awesome program. If you are interested in helping with the shopping or dropping off the fruit, please contact Amy Waldner at kurtamyw@gmail.com.
Don’t forget the Polar Walk to School Day is this Thursday, Dec. 22nd. There will be tons of great prizes and each walker will receive a raffle ticket to win one of three iTunes gift cards. Also, the last day to register for Junior Great Books is Thursday. The program begins the week of Feb. 6th and runs through the end of March 30th. Finally, as you prepare all your holiday favorites don’t forget to save those Box Tops! East Side receives 10 cents for every box top collected. Turn in your box tops now and receive credit for the Box Tops Collection contest coming in February 2012. Just clip your box tops and then label your baggies with # of tops, student’s first & last names, teacher and grade. The drop off box is located in the study room next door to the Tiger’s Cage. So start saving those box tops!!

November 30, 2011, at 7:41 am Welcome back to school! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. As you begin to shop for your holiday presents, please remember to pick up a toy or two for the students at our sister school Fair Oaks Elementary. The Community Outreach committee will begin collecting unused toys/games from Nov 28th – Dec. 15th. The collection bins will be located in the bus port and front atrium. The committee recommends that Kindergarten students bring toys/games appropriate for Kindergarteners and younger children. Grades 1-5 should bring toys/games that are appropriate for their own grade. A list of suggested game ideas is provided in the East Side PTA E-News and will also be included in the December Tiger Times.
If you would like to help distribute the toys to Fair Oaks Elementary or have any questions about the toy drive, please contact the Community Outreach committee at communityoutreach@eastsideelementary.com.

Junior Great Books registration is now open for all students in 1st through 5th grades. The program will begin the week of February 6th and will end the week of March 30th. Also, please remember that all Thanksgiving basket donations are due tomorrow. The Community Outreach committee will be collecting and delivering the baskets to our sister school, Fair Oaks Elementary, on Nov. 16th from 8:00am to 12:30pm. the best place to leave my child’s forgotten lunch or snack? If you decide to bring it to school, please leave the labeled lunch or snack on the designated table in the cafeteria. This will ensure that your child receives his/her food without interrupting important instruction time.
the first meeting for All Pro Dads? In the cafeteria, this Friday, Sept. 2nd from 7:00-7:45am. Please RSVP so that the kitchen staff can prepare breakfast for all those who attend. Also, don’t forget to park across the street in the church parking lot. (allprodad@eastsideelementary.com)
the East Cobber Parade? On Johnson Ferry Road near Mt. Bethel Elementary. It will begin at 10am on Saturday, Sept. 10th. Don’t forget to donate hard candy (no chocolate please). The bin will be placed in the room next to the Tiger’s Cage (marked “Candy Donations for East Cobber Parade”). Then come on out on the 10th to cheer on our East Side administrators, teachers, students, and Teacher & Professional of the Year!

August 23, 2011, at 7:50 am We all know that East Side is an exceptional school. We are so fortunate to have terrific teachers, staff, and parents. Part of our success is the many outstanding programs that are run by our parent volunteers. Here are a few ways that you can lend a hand and make a real difference.
For those who have an interest in literacy, this week you will have an opportunity to organize the Literacy Lab for all the teachers to use throughout the school year. You can help out on either Thurs (10-2) or Fri (11:30-2:00). Even an hour of your time will make a big difference! Contact Grace at gseidita@comcast.net for more information.
Or if the Girl Scouts is more your thing…an organizational meeting will be held in the East Side Cafeteria on Sept. 1st from 6-7:30pm. Troops are formed based on the number of volunteer leaders, so come on out and join in the fun. Contact Lisa Frits at esegirlscouts@gmail.com.
Perhaps fitness is your passion. Fit in 1st/3rd/5th Programs are looking for volunteers to teach students how to eat smart and

Kindergarten Orientation
Welcome all new kindergarten students for the 2011/2012 school year. Please join us in the cafeteria on Wednesday, April 27th at 8:15 for Kindergarten Orientation. Your new student can meet our wonder East Side staff and administrators and we will give you lots of good information about what you have to look forward to for next year! We can’t wait to see you there!
PTA Board Crossover Meeting: 10:15 AM at East Cobb Library
Are you an incoming or outgoing PTA Board member, or are you potentially interested in a chairing a PTA Committee for 2011-2012? If so, please join us for our Annual Crossover Board Meeting, where we say “thank you” to all our old Board members and “welcome” to all those who are new. This is an important meeting when we hand off committee binders to incoming chairs and assess PTA programs for the upcoming school year. This transition is vital to the success of the PTA and we encourage all old and new Board members to attend. We will review PTA policies and procedures, go over Board member responsibilities, and discuss committee binders. Lunch will be served so please RSVP. If you received the EVITE, please RSVP via EVITE (if you haven’t done this already). Otherwise RSVP to secretary@eastsideelementary.com. We look forward to celebrating a successful year and preparing for an even greater year for 2011-2012!

School Supplies for 2011-2012
Reminder that you can purchase your student’s school supplies now, for next year. Its so easy! Forms were sent home last week, or you can download them (see tan box next to this blog). All you have to do is return the form with your payment and you are set! You will pick up your supplies on Tiger Day when students will tour the new school and meet their teacher for next year. It makes life so easy when its back to school time!
East Side Bike Rodeo
On Saturday, April 30th, its the East Side Bike Rodeo!!! East Side Foundation is sponsoring a Bike Rodeo hosted by Safe Kids Cobb County on April 30th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the school. A FAMILY event!! Please bring your bike or scooter (and don’t forget your helmet) for an awesome time. Activities include: Bike Safety, Bike hand signals, Riding course, Bike maintenance, Helmet fitting….all for free!! Come join the fun and make bike safety a part of your family’s fitness routine! On Monday, May 2, please join us for Lunch and Learn from 11 – Noon in the East Side Media Center. Don’t miss this free seminar! Its a Family Nutrition 911 Seminar for busy families today. We are assaulted with fast food advertising, deceptive advertising, ads aimed at kids for unhealthy products, as well as confusing choices. How on earth can we feed our families with good nutrition in mind? Family Nutrition 911 addresses what to focus on, why it’s so important, and better yet will provide some resources to help with this family “emergency!” Heidi Phillips, founder and CEO of Wellness4U, Inc., a wellness coach, mom, personal trainer and nationally ranked triathlete, brings some helpful tools and tips and shares her passion for family nutrition from her heart.
