….the East Side Elementary
Foundation (created by East Side parents in 2005) is a §501(c)(3)
non-profit organization that raises money to provide for curriculum,
technology and facilities resources for East Side that impact all
students
….the Foundation has spent over
$315,000
in its 5 years since inception
….over $56,000 was contributed by corporate donors
through matching grants or direct corporate contributions
….the Foundation funds the Science Lab (including 100% of the
Science Lab teacher salary, instructional materials, equipment and
supplies). All East Side
students rotate through the Lab as a “specials” rotation
….the Foundation provide Classroom Grants for every lead
classroom teacher (up to $150 per teacher to be spent on
curriculum-related items for the class)
….the Foundation has spent over $90,000 on technology
at East Side (SmartBoards and/or Promethian wiriting tablet
Interactive Technology for all grade levels, desktop and laptop
computers, LCD projectors, software for Computer Lab and more)
….the Foundation spent over $100,000 on a new K – 2nd
grade playground that is safe and exciting for our
children thanks to Foundation contributions
….the Foundation spent
$20,000
on the 3rd
– 5th
grade playground
that was installed in 2006 (with a safer surface made from recycled
tires) thanks to contributions by the Foundation, the county, Ford
Corporation and Team Ford of Marietta
….the “6+1” Writing
Program (implemented
school-wide in the 2006-2007 school year) continues to significantly
impact students’ writing abilities thanks to financial support from
the Foundation and PTA. The average writing scores from rising
4th
graders increased 15 percentage points (the highest percentage
increase in 1 year in Cobb County)!!
....Kid
Chess (Three-time Georgia State Champs in 2007, 2008 & 2009 for K –
3 category and State Champs in 2009 for K – 5 category), Drama, Choi
Kwon Do, Art, Robotics, Yoga, Brainy Builders (Legoes Building),
Etiquette, and Spanish
were offered as after school enrichment programs through
the Foundation, with over 450 children participating.
....East Side has
a school-wide license to
BrainPop (an interactive
web-based learning tool) thanks to the Foundation and parents can
access the site at home (www.brainpop.com;
user name: Eastsidega, password: school)
….donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible
….By
volunteering your time, attending our fundraisers and making
donations, you are helping to make East Side Elementary “A Better
School for a Brighter Future”
